Welcome to the Piano Studio of Mary Anne Szollar

About Lessons

Lessons are a one-on-one experience. This gives me the ability to tailor the material and the music specifically to the student's needs. It allows the student to receive my complete attention to their progress.

I welcome parents to listen and observe lessons of their children. I find that young students often benefit from a parent who has observed the methodology in the lesson.

My thoughts on practicing: The basic truth is that we attain proficiency in things when we devote time to them. I frequently refer to practicing as playing the piano. Even in practice we are making music although honing our skills. There is a direct correlation between the amount of time we spend at the piano and what we do when we are there and the outcome of our learning and performance. I teach my students effective ways of practicing; of learning which when followed enhance learning ability.

Lessons vary in length from 30 to 90 minutes. The length of the lesson depends on the age of the student and the level of the repertoire.

Students share music with each other occasionally in performance classes in the studio. These small groups enhance the private lesson work and build camaraderie between the students.
